Dave’s telecom career began in 1994 after previous stints as a Radio DJ and manager of a vintage guitar store in Toronto, Ontario Canada at Unitel, the first competitive Long Distance company in Canada. After 7 months on the Wednesday to Saturday all night shift as a Fraud Analyst, Dave was promoted to Sr. Fraud Analyst and got to come out into the daylight again!
In 1996 he was promoted to Business Analyst for both the Fraud and Traffic departments as the company changed it’s name to AT&T Canada, and did that until moving on to a Project Management role in the Billing Dept. for 2 years in 1998.
In May of 2000, he was hired back into the Fraud Dept as Manager – Fraud and Security. During his time as Manager, he oversaw the deactivation and implementation of 5 different Fraud Management systems, managed the department through multiple downsizings and also performed additional duties as Manager of Corporate Security and International Traffic Management as the company again changed it’s name to Allstream. Through strategic analysis and effective partnerships with both internal and vendor partners, he was able to reduce Allstream’s fraud loss from up to $3M a month down to under $100k per year.
Dave’s first CFCA meeting was in 2000 at the Mountain Shadows Resort in Scottsdale AZ. As he attended more meetings, met more people and realized the invaluable resource the CFCA provided, he was honoured when in 2004, he was approached by Larry Kepfer and Clemmie Scott to consider becoming a member of the Board of Directors. After his election in 2005 he fulfilled roles as board member, Secretary, VP and eventually President from 2014-2016 during which time it was his privilege and honour to oversee the CFCA’s 30th Anniversary celebrations.
After also serving as Immediate Past President, he remained an active member until the all too familiar telecom layoffs due to budget cuts in 2019 mandated his departure from Allstream.
Since then, he spent time as a Business Analyst for the Telus Fraud Group and currently is embracing a new industry and new role working in Business Continuity for Metrolinx who provide Rail, Bus and Mass transportation services for the Greater Toronto Area.
Dave was one of the first recipients of the appointed (no-exam) CCSP award in recognition of demonstrated knowledge of Telecom Fraud and years of participation in and service to the CFCA.
His days now are spend working at his new job, loving his two grown and successful daughters and running the Education and Coaching program at Leaside Curling Club in Toronto.

One of our favorite relationships is the long-standing one we have with CFCA (Communications Fraud Control Association).
Equinox doesn’t just participate in CFCA meetings but has also continuously supported and sponsored their efforts for decades now.
