New Jersey (CFCA) August 30th, 2023 – Communications Fraud Control Association (CFCA), a telecommunications fraud and risk consortium, announces a new task force; Handset Trafficking Task Force (HTTF).

The Task Force unites partners including MNOs and Online Retailers to address the issue of illegally acquired and resold handsets. Committed to eradicating fraud across the Telecom sector, this task force will foster collaboration, information sharing, and the development of a comprehensive anti-fraud framework. Heading up the task force is Steve Schwed of Verizon, Jaime Zetterstrom of Somos, and Adam Panagia of AT&T.

Steve Schwed, HTTF Co-Chair and Fraud Strategy Manager at Verizon said:

“American wireless carriers are looking forward to collaborating with our industry partners to share intelligence on how mobile devices are being stolen and trafficked throughout the world. By sharing this intelligence, we will be better prepared to close gaps that are currently being exploited by threat actors and driving various costs and insecurity into the primary and secondary markets and ultimately impacting consumers who are victimized. By working together and with Law Enforcement, the industry can share our learnings and bring about faster solutions to this increasing problem”.

The first meeting took place this week with members from, Charter Communications, T-Mobile, USCellular, Quick Ship Brands, Recipero, Verizon, AT&T, Asurion, and Somos attending.
